Bit late to the party this morning. It's a public holiday here. I WAS the last to know. I had a big day planned but now I have no-one to pick up my orders so I am staying home. The joys of self employment...you don't get paid holidays. Actually you don't get any pay if you don't work. Funny that.
So for my Monday Nook today, I thought a pool nook would be nice. Isn't this beautiful? I am assuming this is the back of the house. This is what I love about Northern Hemisphere homes (I generalise of course)... they pay as much attention to the back elevation aesthetic as the front. Sometimes the back is even more beautiful as it backs on to a lake or a beach.
Sigh. Love the pavers and the pool furniture..... and the whole damn house!
3 more sleeps until my boy gets home. He emailed last night. His host family gave him Macaroni Cheese for dinner last night. It obviously made an impact as that was pretty much all he wrote about. He also said he had a huge story to tell that he can't write about in an email. My mind went wild. I hope they are treating him well.... fret, fret. He has tried to call via Skype but it is not working for some reason. What's with Japan and Skype?
Anyway, I have decided to sort and file today and maybe do some ironing #riveting
So glad I didn't book the weekend away down at the beach as originally planned. It's raining.
Over and out.
Happy Monday!

A beautiful bathroom nook, by Tiffany Eastman Interiors, this morning.
Look at all that natural light... perfect for a 'makeup nook'. I love the marble and mirrored mix... and that glorious window.
So elegant!
Sort of reminds me of the glamorous bathroom I camped out in for a week on the Upper East Side in NYC. Oh heck, I try to make everything remind me of everything in NYC these days. Someone wears a T-shirt with a NYC logo and I go off with the NYC 'memory fairies'.
Gorgeous! Love the fluffy touch!
I'm off for lunch with some bloggy friends today.... and I won't feel a bit guilty lolling about leisurely lunching..... I worked all weekend!
Happy Monday!

This Monday's Nook can be found on page 150 of this month's Australian 'Home Beautiful' ....my old pantry, now owned by someone else....and most likely not featuring my Masterfoods slow cooker recipe bases! How embarrassment. I should have tidied up the pantry drawers before they took the photos. Recipe bases, tuna, arborio rice, two minute noodles! What was I thinking? Where was I?
Anyway, good old Home Beautiful is the 'gift that keeps on giving'...the glamour continues! You can find the whole pantry feature above in the September Home Beautiful, on the shelves now.
Monday again! Boy the weekends go fast! We had a great weekend.......friends birthday parties, soccer games, family time and sailing trips....and I got some seriously delicious time to myself, which I have been missing since my solo trip to New York and The Hamptons ....two weeks ago now! Do you scheme time by yourself?... I'm getting really good at it now! ....any excuse!
I have lots to talk about this week...lots of blog fodder, thanks to my trip. I will share some more of the Hampton Designer Showhouse and a beautiful interiors shop in New York that stopped me in my tracks!
Have great day! Happy Monday!
A-M xx
P.S. I know, I'm using Blogsy again. We've made up. Sort of. It's ok when you only have one photo to load up!

Today's nook is a beautiful stairwell I found via Chris Martin and Co builders.
The panelling is glorious. Would you call it wainscoting if it encompasses the ceiling too? Or does it become a coffered ceiling? Wainscoting historically did cover floor to ceiling, to insulate stone buildings ..... and it was only in the 18th century that wainscot panelling became a style of panelling applied to the lower part of a wall... below the dado rail and above the skirting board. I've heard that this lower wainscoting was not just decorative to start off with... being used to cover the lower part of the walls in homes with poor damp proofing. Nowadays, it's purely decorative.
See why I am obsessed with this architectural style?! Obsessed, I tell you. Someone actually labelled my love of this New England, Hampton's, French inspired, architectural style as a 'fetish' (Wiki: 'the attribution of religious or mystical qualities to inanimate objects'). Yep, that just about describes it!
Happy Monday!

A gorgeous kitchen sink nook this morning.
Loving those beautiful iridescent basket-weave tiles....
.... and the window framing is perfect... topped off with a little arch.
Here's a peek at more of the kitchen.... and another nook, a dining nook!
... and it's buttoned.. and bathed in sunlight!
Heaven!
Thank you to my reader for spotting this beauty and sending it my way!
We still have another week of school holidays to go. That third week makes all the difference. My boys are going to be really refreshed for Term 3.
My big son has grown a whole foot size over the holidays... I can't keep up with the clothing situation. I am sure the little one has grown heaps too but I am throwing hand me downs his way so I don't notice it as much as when I am continually having to buy clothes to fit the 'moving goal post' that is my big son.
The boys are heading down to Gran's mid week as I am off to Melbourne for a few days...... AND my New York countdown has begun. Three weeks yesterday... and counting. I am beyond excited.... but have so much work to do before I go. Step by step. I'm starting to miss my boys already. Swirling emotions.... but that's what life is all about.... fear, intrepidation, love, yearning, accomplishment, gratitude. It's all happening here.
Happy Monday!

Ok, so I thought last week's kitchen nook was 'the one' .... but I have found another!
This one would work well.. as I plan to have my house layout in an L shape, with the kitchen being on the little part of the L.... opening out onto a small deck, stepping down to lawn area to the pool.
I love everything about this little nook, the shelving, the yellow accent colour, the metallic drum shade, the 'Eames-ish' chairs, the storage drawers.... the beautiful sunlight! I can see homework being done at that table!
Here's the rest of the kitchen.
For me?... I'd put the entrance to the Butler's pantry where the fridge is and then we'd be done.... or maybe move the stove along and have the entrance to the pantry to the left of the stove, continuing that shelving along the back wall into the pantry. Now there's a thought!
Oh, and look, glass pendant lights! I have some of them in my shop! Done.
Happy Monday!

Well, I started with the lovely, well lit, breakfast nook...
... and then got distracted with the whole kitchen/living area.
I could so live here.... very conducive for family living...everything at your fingertips....living area near the kitchen... no one is left out, no matter what you get up to in this area... cooking, watching TV, doing homework in the nook.
I love all the natural light and the views of the terrace and greenery..... and the pendant lights go so well together....yet they are so different... a nice mix of canned and pendant lighting. I would whack in a floor lamp near the sofa though, for 'mood reading light'.
Cozy.
Aww, hi puss!
My boys would love a cat.
We move too much.
One day.
Brian and Nigella are much more portable.. and don't eat much.
... and look, there's a little kitchen office nook, off to the left.
Yep, it's got everything.
Could you live here? I so could!
Happy Monday!

Let's start the week with this beautiful little nook.
Neutrals... love them.
This is part of a beautiful old home renovation in Maryland, USA.
Big statement ... but I seriously love every room in this beautiful home.
Every room.
Look at that tub!
Love the colour palette.
You can read all about it and see more pictures HERE.
I'm currently scheming my quick trip to the Hampton's.
I have booked the most wonderful accommodation in the Hampton's. It's all booking out fast, as it is peak season, so I got the last two rooms in a gorgeous B&B, in Southampton. In order to stay there, I have to change rooms during my stay.... and the delightful owners have joked that I will become an official member of 'The Sleep Around Club' as a result! Their emails to me are so informative. They have been so helpful. I sent out many emails to various establishments but this one was my first choice because you can feel their passion for their home, and their love for their business and their customers, in the way that they write.
Mentally, I am already there. I am already walking down the main street of Southampton, planning where I will go for the day, what bus to catch and what hedge to peer through in search of the odd pretty home hidden away. I am hoping that I will be able to find some sort of architectural tour, happening somewhere/anywhere on Long Island, the days that I am there. If it's happening, I'll find it!
I only have a few days, for the Hampton's, before the conference, as I am spending the time after the conference in NYC. Don't you hate how one has to fit jetlag into all this as well. I'm going to will myself out of it. Oh, yes I am. No time for jetlag.
Any advice on how to avoid/minimise jetlag? I'll do anything.. that's legal!
We have a public holiday here... thank you 'Your Majesty'... no school run.. so we're chilling out, in more ways than one. It's cool here. Love the colder weather! I'm going to get my boys on their bikes for an early morning ride to the shops.
Happy Monday!

Posted this on my 'House' Facebook Page the other day.
Got me thinking about pantries...
You could never buy a tin of tomatoes in a red can, could you?
All oldie but a goodie, one of my long time favourites....
... all that glass and white stuff.... and the clock and the blackboard.
Spice door! Bit clever.
Someone's been busy!
Image source has been lost over time ... but it's on my Pinterest page
Have always loved this....a pantry thoroughfare.... great idea... and I love the lights... of course.
Love this. Don't know how practical it would be.
I can't stand opening and closing cupboards all the time.
Drooled over this on Pinterest, thinking it was wallpaper.
Kek informed me it was a stencil!
This is rather lovely. Throw in a shaker door and you've got me.
Love this little nook. Looks like it's been dug out below the house... with the brick wall and the low ceiling. Very tidy because there's no food. Food must be out of shot.
Wow, all that stuff is in storage... I'm livin' lean!
Actually if I remember correctly, I gave those storage jars away to Givit, just after the floods when I radically decluttered my life.
I have an overwhelming desire to put the fridge in the pantry like I did last time. It just worked. Am I allowed to do the same thing again? I don't think I'd do stainless steel pantry bench tops again. I didn't have a hope of keeping them presentable when I found a spade chucked on them during the house construction. Started out with scratches.
There are heaps more drool worthy pantries over on my Kitchen Pinterest Board HERE.
Must go. Run, school, shed and then morning tea with some friends to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. Any excuse to get out!
Happy Monday!

I'm looking at 'mini nooks' now, in my house build scheming. I reason that if they are mini, then they won't be too tricky to whip up .... and I won't get the standard, "what do you want to do that for?" so much? This one says 'warm and cozy cabin in the woods' to me... with the autumn colours and furry jacket... and look at the little twigs for the cabinet hardware!... and the hooks... are they twiggy things too?
I'm off sourcing white-goods today. George, at 'Clive Anthonys Commercial', that's you! See you soon!
Happy Monday! It's deliciously cold here! At last!
Is it cold where you are? I am a cold weather girl so I love 'cabin with fireplace' stories.

Next time, I am looking at an entrance foyer, rather than a hall.
I rather like this sort of thing... with the staircase on the right. It was originally in the formation below, but I mirror imaged it. I love the little staircase window, the wainscoting..... and the transom leading to 'beyond'.
Are you like that? ... needing to mirror image things? I am definitely a 'right hand side' girl for almost everything. Is there something in that?
It's Monday again. Doesn't the week come around fast?
We are catching up with my brothers .... and all our little cousins today. It will be great. I always seriously live in the moment at these events as I don't see my gorgeous brothers and my darling nieces and nephews often enough. Everyone leads such busy lives.
Happy Monday!

Isn't this a lovely little nook? .. such a pretty space, bathed in glorious natural light. Those shutters are just perfect.... privacy, but still lots of light. I love the idea of furniture in bathrooms. I might just do this next time... nook, furniture, shutters.. the lot. I'm thinking.... some fancy wallpaper above the wall tiles perhaps?... depends on the floor tiles. The desk/chair would be white and the mirror, silver. Yep, I can see it..... and there would be some grey in those floor tiles....Ann Sacks style.... like these:
or with a touch of black:
..... or the ones I keep coming back to, after years of loving them:
Sigh! Still sets my heart a flutter after all these years.
Monday! Two more weeks left of term. Where have those school fees gone? The term needs to be longer!
I have a sick boy at the moment... but he has to be ambulatory... as he has a week of exams. It's going to be a struggle. He has inherited his mother's tragic lungs. The 'atypicals' love him... just like they love me. My Dr rolls his eyes at me when I say, "I swear a little Mycoplasma or Moraxella has taken up permanent residence in my lower lobes". As a little tike, I used to wait for the loud drums/brass in orchestra so I could hide my cough. True. That was way back. If they're out there, they find us, those bugs..... she typed, cough, coughing in the dark, hunched over her computer!
My poor love.... lots of nurturing this week.
I'm slinking into an orchestra tonight actually, to see if I can keep up. If so, I might stay. I miss my music. I did 19 years as the solo violin in a bush band, surely I can survive back desk second violins in a symphony orchestra.. although there's lots more semi-quavers. Bit different to 'Wild Rover', 'Knees Up Mother Brown' and 'Tenpenny Bit'! I'll let you know the outcome tomorrow. Bit nervous...but I will regret it if I don't try. 'Do something every day that scares you' right? Yep, tick! I am prepared for it to go either way!
Have a happy day!
