Monday Nook

This Monday's Nook can be found on page 150 of this month's Australian 'Home Beautiful' ....my old pantry, now owned by someone else....and most likely not featuring my Masterfoods slow cooker recipe bases! How embarrassment. I should have tidied up the pantry drawers before they took the photos. Recipe bases, tuna, arborio rice, two minute noodles! What was I thinking? Where was I?

Anyway, good old Home Beautiful is the 'gift that keeps on giving'...the glamour continues! You can find the whole pantry feature above in the September Home Beautiful, on the shelves now.

Monday again! Boy the weekends go fast! We had a great weekend.......friends birthday parties, soccer games, family time and sailing trips....and I got some seriously delicious time to myself, which I have been missing since my solo trip to New York and The Hamptons ....two weeks ago now! Do you scheme time by yourself?... I'm getting really good at it now! ....any excuse!

I have lots to talk about this week...lots of blog fodder, thanks to my trip. I will share some more of the Hampton Designer Showhouse and a beautiful interiors shop in New York that stopped me in my tracks!

Have great day! Happy Monday!

A-M xx

P.S. I know, I'm using Blogsy again. We've made up. Sort of. It's ok when you only have one photo to load up!

Blogsy It Is

Testing from Blogsy now. That's better! Bigger photos! Now you can see the pressed metal ceiling in all its glory! .... And oh those lights! Will come back here to practise some more tonight! A-M xx

Kitchen Furniture

I found the kitchen that belongs to this beautiful antique armoire that I have been coveting!
I so love that soft grey-blue colour.
Isn't it wonderful how the cabinetry just hugs it tight?

I'd almost forgo a Butler's pantry for that gorgeous armoire smack bang in the middle of it all.

Check out the stove!.... flanked by beautiful double hung windows of course!

I love this kitchen! It has the same layout as my old one.. sort of..... in a more glamorous fashion!

See? Twins!

I seriously love kitchen furniture....

... and I needed to tell you that this morning!

Happy Tuesday!

~♥ Kitchen Corner ♥~

I enjoy spending time in my kitchen.  Whenever I was little I spent a lot of time with my Gram in her kitchen.  I'd watch her make pies, helped her cut squares for her quilts, play cards with her or just spend time talking with her.  I wanted a kitchen that was as welcoming as her kitchen was.

I thought I'd share a little corner of my kitchen with you.
I like to keep things handy for my family to snack on.  There's usually something yummy in the cookie jar or on the cake plate.  I love having my Keurig available for a quick Cup O' Joe.  I keep the K-cups handy in the bottom bowl.  Above it are various breakfast bars for when we're on the run in the morning and we don't have time for a good breakfast.  I have started to collect juicers.  I have two on the table that I bought at thrift stores and the green one on the window sill belonged to my Gram.  The school chalkboard was given to me by a friend.  I like to change the message on it using my Chalk Ink markers.   Click Here to Visit the Chalk Ink Website!

Thank you for stopping by...I always enjoy the company.

Monday (Pantry) Nook

Posted this on my 'House' Facebook Page the other day.
Got me thinking about pantries...

You could never buy a tin of tomatoes in a red can, could you?

All oldie but a goodie, one of my long time favourites....
... all that glass and white stuff.... and the clock and the blackboard.

Spice door! Bit clever.

Someone's been busy!

Image source has been lost over time ... but it's on my Pinterest page

Have always loved this....a pantry thoroughfare.... great idea... and I love the lights... of course.

Love this. Don't know how practical it would be.
I can't stand opening and closing cupboards all the time.

Drooled over this on Pinterest, thinking it was wallpaper.
Kek informed me it was a stencil!

This is rather lovely. Throw in a shaker door and you've got me.

Love this little nook. Looks like it's been dug out below the house... with the brick wall and the low ceiling. Very tidy because there's no food. Food must be out of shot.

Wow, all that stuff is in storage... I'm livin' lean!
Actually if I remember correctly, I gave those storage jars away to Givit, just after the floods when I radically decluttered my life.

I have an overwhelming desire to put the fridge in the pantry like I did last time. It just worked. Am I allowed to do the same thing again? I don't think I'd do stainless steel pantry bench tops again. I didn't have a hope of keeping them presentable when I found a spade chucked on them during the house construction. Started out with scratches.

There are heaps more drool worthy pantries over on my Kitchen Pinterest Board HERE.

Must go. Run, school, shed and then morning tea with some friends to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. Any excuse to get out!

Happy Monday!

Almost there…

still in progress

I’m really not into posting “before” photos until I have some finished pics to follow them up with.  I personally like seeing a pretty picture after an ugly one.  But I figure with how things are moving along over here… it could be awhile.  ;)

A few months ago I posted about the English Smallbone kitchen we found on craigslist.  I posted about it here

oldkitchen13

Here’s the kitchen in it’s original home.  A little old school country, but with so much potential.

oldkitchen12

And here it is installed in our new-but still in progress-kitchen:

There were two painted pieces mixed in with the wood, and I decided to repaint them in a creamy white.

still in progress 2

I just love the look of wood and white.  Instead of subway tile, we’ll be installing wide horizontal plank boards on the walls of the kitchen, painted white.  I think it will give it a cozy modern farmhouse vibe that will feel warmer than tile.

still in progress 3

We’ll be using honed carrara marble for some of the counters, including the island.

still in progress 10

The beautiful teak on the farmhouse sink counter will stay, as will the butcher block counter:

Does the island look familiar?

still in progress 3

We took it with us from our old house when we moved.  I painted it the same creamy white as the new cabinets and took the fabric off the back of the wire…just for a change.

still in progress 4

I also used the same Restoration Hardware drawer pulls on the new cabinets as I did on our island for a unified look:

By the way, we got our Jenn-Air stove on craigslist too for $200!  It was an especially good find, since we needed a downdraft stove due to the windows above.  Downdraft stoves are hard to come by, especially used.

I have always loved wrap-around windows in a kitchen.

still in progress 9

The view out of our new kitchen is worth the lack of storage space from upper cabinets. Don’t mind the unkempt yard… that’s a whole other project.

I’ve gotten so much inspiration from so many places, it’s hard to narrow down one kitchen in particular that’s inspired the new space.  But here are some, which will give you an idea of what I’m envisioning for the walls, ceiling, and window finishings:

I hope by sharing these sneak peak pics, you can share in my vision (and excitement) for the finished product.  Almost there!

~♥ Peek Into My Pantry ♥~

Hello friends...I hope you all are doing well. It's a lovely Monday afternoon here in Southwestern Pa...we've been blessed with a pretty mild winter so far...I am certainly not complaining! My Dear Daughter and I headed out for a 30 minute walk this afternoon.  So glad I got to spend time with her since she had a day off from college because of President's Day.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Thanks to those of you who continued to follow my blog even though I haven't really blogged much about my home lately...that's about to change today!  I thought I'd share with you pictures of my pantry.  Having this pantry really keeps my kitchen organized.  Let's take a look:

Here's a look with all of the doors opened.
I keep my kitchen gadgets in this side of the pantry.  Love the pull-out shelves for easy access.
Cookie sheets, baking pans, muffin tins, and cooling racks are in this area.
My little Dirt Devil vacuum, Swiffer Wet Jet, and other misc. items are stored here.
Breakfast items and items that won't fit on the other shelves go here.
Top shelf is for condiments, etc. Next Shelf is for canned goods, etc. Shelf below that is for snacks and the bottom two shelves (you can only see one of them) is for baking supplies.
Hope you enjoyed this little tour...thanks for stopping by!
Kim
